Vijayawada kanaka Durga temple is on the bank of the river Krishna .This temple is famously known as “Sri Durga Maleshwara Swamy”, where goddess Durga is worshiphed along with lord Shiva . As per the Hindu tradition Goddesses take their position on the left of their consorts . This is the only place where goddess Durga is on the right side to lord Shiva.
Once there lived a yaksha named “Keela”. This Keela performed penance for goddess Durga and she appeared before him. Goddess asks him to make a wish.
Then he asks that ”he just want goddesss to be live in his heart forever”. The goddess grants him the boon .As the god Indrudu worships goddess Durga on this hill. So the hill is called as Indrakeeladri ,where Indra –Keela-aadhri
Indra Keeladri is acombinatiion of three words, Indra-The god who worships goddess Durga, Keela-The yaksha, Aadhri-The hill.
